How to Contain and Collect Oil on Water using Oil Booms
Oil containment booms are not to be deployed and left to the elements. Somebody needs to attend to them constantly. The idea is that booms divert oil to a place of collection. They were NEVER meant store oil! Wind direction will also move oil; so configure the boom to take advantage of the wind and current. Be a good observer you are diverting surface oil to a point of collection.
If you swing your arm through water, you create turbulance, forcing water over and under your arm. Same with boom! Avoid this by angleing the boom so oil slides along the boom!
Surface oil is easily sucked up using a vacuum nozzle.
Don't use an electric vacuum! (FIRE HAZARD)
An electric vacuum has been used with a great degree of seccuss using a 55 gallon drum as a vacuum tank. Attach the vacuum's hose to one of the 55 gal. drum's, two openings. The other opening is for the oil suction hose (inlet), making the drum a vacuum tank.
Remember, as oil heats up, it releases flammable vapor!

The vacuum tank has an inlet on top; separate from the exit going to the vacuum source. You need to separate junk coming in; from the air being vacuumed out.
The important thing is:
You have to collect the oil when it builds up; or it goes under the boom.
